Kirkland native joins Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League baseball team

Boston College junior and Kirkland native Spenser Payne will be playing on the Southern Ohio Copperheads baseball team this summer. Payne plays outfield.

The Copperheads are a part of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, an amateur summer collegiate wood bat baseball team made up of 11 teams in Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan. Players come from college programs across the U.S.

The Copperheads are in their ninth year as a team and have made the playoffs four times. Last season the team entered the post season as the sixth seed and reached the championship game, which the team lost to the Cincinnati Steam.

The team is based in Athens, Ohio and play their games on the Ohio University campus.

Payne played for Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish.
