Kirkland resident Brandon Schumacher, 17, recently won the 17-18 year old Cyclocross state championship.

The Inglemoor High School student races with the JL Velo Cycling team. He won state during the competition held in Arlington, Wash. on Dec. 4.

Cyclocross is a form of bicycle racing that is quickly growing in popularity in the Pacific Northwest. Racing season is held in autumn and early winter, with races that consist of many short laps of a 1.5 to 2 mile course that features pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hill and obstacles rides must work around.
