Lake Washington boys basketball qualifies for state for first time since 1997

The Lake Washington boys basketball team (17-7) qualified for the state tournament and will play in the first round Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome against Wilson High School (18-8). The team qualified for the state tournament Saturday with a win against Skyview of Vancouver at home, 67-55. The Kangs began the game on fire, doubling Skyview's point total during the first quarter 16-8. Lake Washington extended that advantage during the second quarter to take a 30-18 lead into the half. The Vancouver team cut into the lead during the opening minutes of the second half but the Kangs finished the game strong with 23 fourth-quarter points.

Lake Washington was led by Dallas Searles with 21 points, while teammates Matt Staudacher (14 points) and Darien Nelson-Henry (10 points) reached double figures.
