Lake Washington boys will play for KingCo title | Playoff update

After battling throughout the season for the top place, the Lake Washington boys basketball team continued to win during their first KingCo tournament game on Tuesday night. The Kangs beat Sammamish 65-60.

After battling throughout the season for the top place, the Lake Washington boys basketball team continued to win during their first KingCo tournament game on Tuesday night. The Kangs beat Sammamish 65-60.

With the win the team moves forward to play Bellevue in the KingCo title game on Thursday night, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Bellevue College. The winner will earn the No. 1 seed into the SeaKing district tournament, while the loser will be No. 2.

Against Sammamish, Lake Washington was down 24-18 at the end of the first quarter, followed by an 11-10 deficit in the second. The team was still behind at the end of the third quarter, in which Sammamish hit 22 points, while the Kangs made 21. However, Lake Washington made 16 points during the final minutes, while holding Sammamish to just three to take the game.

Four Lake Washington players scored during the match, including 21 points from both Matt Staudacher and Guy Lynott. Darien Nelson-Henry had 15 points, followed by eight from Jeff Staudacher.
