In their first meeting this season, the Lake Washington boys basketball dominated the Juanita Rebels. The Kangs won 78-39.
The game started with a close first quarter, with Lake Washington holding an early 19-12 lead. Despite the physical game, the Kangs pulled away in the second quarter, scoring 20 points while keeping the Rebels to just nine.
After the half, the lead widened with another 26 Kang points and eight for Juanita. Later into the game, foul trouble began to plague both teams, with key players taking a seat to avoid fouling out. In the final minutes of the game, Juanita battled back in with 10 more points, but at that point they couldn’t retake the Lake Washington lead.
Darien Nelson-Henry led the Kangs with 16 points, while Kelly Guy had 15, Guy Lynott had 14, Matt Staudacher had 13 and Drew Heimdahl added 11. Cody Bernstein posted five for the Kangs and Marcus Giovacchini added four.
No scoring leaders were available for Juanita.
The Kangs will take on Mount Si this Friday at the Wildcats gym at 8 p.m. and will return home next Tuesday, Dec. 13 for a league game against Sammamish.
The Rebels face Liberty at home on Friday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. and will play Battle Ground in a non-conference game on Dec. 10 at Bellevue College.
