The Lake Washington High softball team scored 14 runs in the bottom of the third inning on its way to an 18-1 win over Garfield in the first round of the Class 3A SeaKing District tournament on Monday in Seattle.

The Kangaroos (19-4) led 4-0 after the second inning, and went on a rally so long the entire lineup got to bat twice.

Hannah Walker and Hannah Steele both hit triples in the inning. Walked finished 1-4, but had four RBIs to lead the Kangs. Steele went 2-3 with three RBIs.

Tori Bivens pitched three and one third innings to start the game, allowing no hits and no walks, striking out seven of 11 batters in only 45 pitches. Jane Wilson stepped on to close, striking out three batters in the final 1.2 innings.

The Kangs had by far the most lopsided victory of any team in the first round. Eastside Catholic beat Bellevue 17- and Bainbridge beat Seattle Prep 5-2.

Roosevelt, who is scheduled to face Juanita at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, at Southwest Athletic Complex in Seattle, beat Bishop Blanchet 11-1 on Monday.

Next, Lake Washington is scheduled to play Holy Names Academy in the second round at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Southeast Athletic Complex on the campus of Rainier Beach High School in Seattle.
