It was a defensive struggle at Interlake High School Friday night, as neither the Saints nor the Kangs girls basketball teams scored more than 11 points in any quarter. But Lake Washington proved to be the stronger defensive team, grinding out a 39-31 victory in Bellevue.
The Kangs pulled ahead by three points after the first eight minutes of play, but Interlake kept that lead to just one basket, 18-16, at halftime.
Lake Washington held the home team to just six third-quarter points, which proved to be enough to lift the visitors to the win.
Sydney Shepard led the Kangs with 12 points, while Madison Shapard scored eight points and Hannah Brender had seven points.
