The Lake Washington boys basketball team won two games over the holiday weekend, beating Interlake last Friday and taking down Lincoln during the King Holiday Hoopfest at Hec Edmundson Pavvillion on Monday.Against KingCo opponent Interlake, the Kangs won 76-58.
Interlake led at the end of the first 13-10, but the Kangs stepped up in the second to outscore the Saints 17-16. In the third quarter Lake Washington really took over, hitting 28 points to Interlake’s 16 and adding 21 in the fourth for the win.
Darien Nelson-Henry posted 28 points for the Kangs during the win, while Guy Lynott posted 13 points.Cody Bernstein and Jamal Muhammad each had seven, while Mike Hanson and Kelly Guy each picked up six points. Jeff Staudacher had five points, while older brother Matt had four.
Monday, the team traveled to the King Holiday Hoopfest, taking on Lincoln. The Kangs won 68-58.Lake Washington easily led a 25-8 game at the end of the first quarter, but Lincoln surged in the second, holding the Kangs to eight points while scoring 21. At the half Lake Washington was up 33-29.
After the break, Lake Washington broke through once again, scoring 21, while holding Lincoln to 13. In the final minutes of the game it was closer with Lincoln hitting 16 points and the Kangs 14, but those big early number for Lake Washington sealed the game.
Once again Nelson-Henry had the team’s high, this time with a season high of 35 points. Lynott had 18 points during the game, while Guy posted seven, Jeff Staudacher had six and Matt Staudacher had two points. Last Friday, Juanita traveled to Bellevue, losing 63-47 to the Wolverines.
Bellevue controlled the early minutes of the game, up 18-5 at the end of the first, but Juanita added to their total in the second, scoring 14, while holding Bellevue to 10. The Rebels also outscored Bellevue in the third 18-13, but a 22 point fourth quarter for Bellevue finished the game.
Trevor Andrews had the team’s high with 13 points, while Devan Jackson scored 11 overall. Avery Britton and Landyn Milburn each had seven points, while Ryan Reid had five. Sean Brennan and Riley O’Rourke each had two points.
