The Lake Washington High gymnastics team finished third as a group at the Class 3A District 2 championships on Feb. 11 at Ballard High School in Seattle, qualifying for the state championships.
Lake Washington’s Audrey Arnold finished third in all-around with a score of 37.6. Arnold won the vault event with a score of 9.55, finished in a tie for ninth in the bars, tied for second in the beam and finished third in the floor routine. Teammate Kaysha Walford finished eighth in the all-around, and tied for fifth in the bars.
Lake Washington’s Paige Chickering was fourth in the beam.
Lake Washington’s Sonya Amirzehni, Eden Netz, Yael Pasumansky and Joeli Pence also qualified.
Several Juanita gymnasts also qualified. The top four teams move on to the state championships, along wit hthe top six all-around gymnasts not on a qualifying team and the top 18 individuals in each event who are not already qualified.
Juanita’s Emma Harrington qualified in all four events. Daphanie Chan qualified in the bars and the beam.
Holy Names Academy won the event with 178 points, finishing ahead of Kamiakin with 175.95. Lake Washington had 173.9 points. Mount Spokane also qualified for the state championships as a team with 170.275 points.
Bainbridge was fifth, Bellevue sixth, Ballard seventh and Interlake eighth.
The state gymnastics competition for Classes 1A-3A is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Feb. 16 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall. Finals are set for the following day.
