Utah State University senior Dillon Maggard — a Lake Washington High graduate — placed fifth in both the distance medley relay and 3,000-meter race at the NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships in College Station, Texas last weekend. Utah finished 29th as a team, its best finish since placing 21st in 1977.
Maggard anchored the relay team by running the fastest 1,600-meter split in the race at 3:56.53, leading Utah to a school-record time of 9:32.31. In the 3,000, Maggard, who was seeded 15th in the race, placed fifth with a time of 8:06.69.
Maggard is now a seven-time All-American, made up of two cross country honors, four indoor track and field accolades (3,000 meters, distance medley relay and twice in the mile) and an outdoor track and field honor in the 1,500 meters.
