Baseball finally came to a close for Juanita High on Wednesday with a 12-3 loss to Mercer Island in the Class 3A KingCo tournament at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.

Baseball finally came to a close for Juanita High on Wednesday with a 12-3 loss to Mercer Island in the Class 3A KingCo tournament at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.

The Islanders (19-4) scored the final eight runs of the game, pulling away after Juanita had crept within one run in the top of the third inning.

Mercer Island started Lucas Chapman held the Rebels (8-15) to just four hits in six innings pitched.

Juanita scored all three runs in the top of the third inning. Tanner Peterson hit an RBI single to right field, followed shortly thereafter by an RBI single to center field from Jayson Schroeder. Peterson gunned around third base and scored, making it 4-3 with one out remaining.

Chapman walked Dexter Mell, then delivered a groundout to end the inning.

Peterson had the best day at the plate for Juanita, going 2-2 with one RBI and one run scored. Christian Blackburn, who has saved the Rebels in the clutch more than once this season, went 0-3 with two strikeouts.

JD Worchester and Mell combined on the mound for the Rebels, allowing 12 hits and seven earned runs while striking out five batters. Both teams made two errors.

The Islanders advance to play the No. 4 team from the Metro League on Saturday, May 14 at Steve Cox Memorial Park in Seattle.
