Northwest University (NU) scored two second half goals to defeat the Evergreen State College, 2-0, on Tuesday during a CCC semifinal match-up and advance to the Cascade Conference Championships final.
Neither team could manage a score in the first half as the defenses held along with the goalkeepers with each grabbing three saves to prevent a score.
NU sophomore Jacob Weaver finally put the Eagles on the scoreboard when he dribbled up the left side, shot and then left footed the rebound off the Evergreen goalkeeper into the right corner of the net from 18 yards out on the left side.
The Eagles then scored the game clincher at the 78:18 mark when Weaver centered the ball to Kyle Zimmerman 20-yards out in the middle and Zimmerman finished with a blast into the upper center of the goal.
Daniel Christenson earns the shutout for NU and finished with five saves. Angel Guerra took the loss in goal for the Geoducks as he also stopped five NU shots on goal. NU had a 16-9 advantage in shots and corner kicks were even at five per team. Josimar Evangelista had five shots for NU while Tanner Williams tallied five shots for Evergreen.
The Eagles will play the winner of the Concordia-Corban CCC semifinal.
