Northwest University athletes compete at WWU Vernacchia meet

Northwest University's Michelle Perez broke her own school record in the long jump with a first place finish and a leap of 5.62m (18-05.25) to earn her a NAIA "B" standard qualifying mark at the Ralph Vernacchia track and field meet on Saturday at Civic Stadium.

Northwest University’s Michelle Perez broke her own school record in the long jump with a first place finish and a leap of 5.62m (18-05.25) to earn her a NAIA “B” standard qualifying mark at the Ralph Vernacchia track and field meet on Saturday at Civic Stadium.

The NU women’s 4X800 relay team set a NAIA “B” qualifying mark in taking first place with their time of 9-minutes, 26.95-seconds. The team was comprised of Ryan Conlin, Cassidy Brown, Shandon Lystad, and Lily Engelbrekt.

Jonathan Ferguson won his second straight 800m in as many weeks with a first place finish in the men’s 800m run. His time of 1:54.87 beat out 29 other runners from NCAA Division II, community colleges and running clubs. Ferguson took the top spot in the event at the Spike Arlt meet in Ellensburg on April 23.
