Northwest University men outlast Evergreen in overtime

The Northwest University men’s basketball team outscored Evergreen 18-10 in overtime for a 93-85 Cascade Conference win over Evergreen on Tuesday in Olympia.

The Eagles trailed 34-31 at halftime and took a lead with less than a minute to go. Evergreen’s JJ Nixon went coast-to-coast and scored the tying basket with three seconds remaining, sending the game into overtime.

Paul Loranger connected on a three-point play to put Northwest in the lead for good, 80-78, with 3:59 to go. The Eagles (6-4 Cascade, 14-4) went nine-of-nine from the free throw line down the stretch.

Ben Tucakovic led the Eagles with 23 points and 6 rebounds. Michael Dupree had 15 points and 5 assists; Dak Shagren 14 points; Loranger and Tre’ Benton each with 13 points.
