Northwest University’s head women’s basketball coach, Ken Crawford, announced the signing of eight student-athletes who will play for the Eagles in the 2014-15 season. Six of the athletes signing their letters of intent are high school seniors and two are currently attending community colleges.
“We are very excited about this recruiting class,” Crawford said. “It is a blend of size, speed, quickness and strength. More importantly there is a strong thread of leadership in this group as evidenced by the number of players who have served as team captains or won inspirational awards.”
Charmaine Bradford of Oakland, Calif., will join the Eagle program after graduating from Eastside College Prep in East Palo Alto, Calif. The 5-foot-5 point guard averaged 8 points per game and 4.5 assists last season and was named to the First Team, West Bay Athletic All-League team. She was also a first team Central Coast Section team member, second team San Jose Mercury member and Honorable Mention, San Francisco All-Metro team honoree. Nominated to the Cal Hi All-State team, Charmaine was a team captain in the 2013-14 season.
Hannah Carlson of Ferndale, Wash., and Ferndale High School, signed a letter of intent to play for Northwest University next season. The 5-foot-10 forward averaged 13.7 ppg and 6.6 rebounds per contest at Ferndale and was a First Team Northwest Conference and All-County Team member in 2013-14. She was also named the MVP of the Boys and Girls Club Senior Classic. An outstanding student Carlson will be senior class valedictorian and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Charity Degman hails from East Wenatchee, Wash., and will transfer from Wenatchee Valley Community College. Degman, a 6-foot-1 forward, averaged 6.9 ppg and 4.3 rebounds for the Knights and was voted team captain. She will earn her Associate Arts degree this spring and will be a psychology major at Northwest University. Degman played her prep basketball at Eastmont High School.
Brianna Fiso of Seattle, Wash., will earn her AA degree from Highline Community College and is a Health Sciences major. The 5-foot-10 forward averaged 7.0 ppg and 6.1 rebounds per game for the Thunderbirds last season. Fiso attended Evergreen High School in Seattle.
Kalee Fowler will graduate from Cedarcrest High School and hails from Monroe, Wash. The 5-foot-6 senior guard averaged 18.7 ppg and 4.1 rebounds last season for the Red Wolves and was named First Team All-Conference. A team captain, Fowler also earned a spot on the WIAA 2A All-State Team and was selected to play in the WIBCA All-State game this past spring. Kalee was also the recipient of her team’s Most Inspirational Player Award.
Emily Henderson, a 6-foot post from Grants Pass, Ore., will graduate from Grants Pass High School this spring. She averaged 10.7 ppg and 7.1 rebounds per game at Grants Pass and was an Honorable Mention Oregon 6A District 1 All-Conference team member. A dual sport athlete, Henderson was also a Forst Team All-League and an Oregon 6A District 1 All-Conference player in volleyball.
Morgan Jacobson will come to NU from West Palm Beach, Florida, and Kings Academy. A 5-foot-7 guard, Jacobson averaged 12.2 ppg and 7.1 rebounds which earned her First Team Palm Beach Post and Second Team Palm Beach Sun Sentinel honors for the 2013-14 season. Jacobson was also team captain.
Katie Rozumny of Puyallup, Wash., is a senior at Cascade Christian High School in Puyallup and averaged 11.3 ppg and 4.3 rebounds for the Cougars. The 5-foot-7 guard was named a First Team All-Olympic League team member by the Seattle Times while also serving as the team captain for Cascade.
“Each of these athletes has had the opportunity to visit our campus, meet returning members of the team and consider if it was a good fit for them,” Crawford said. “There is a commitment to excellence, hard work and success exuded by all these young ladies, both on and off the court. We can hardly wait to get going!”
