The Northwest University volleyball team continues to shine this season.

The Eagles picked up their third and fourth consecutive victories over the weekend, beating Southern Oregon University on Oct. 7 and Oregon Institute of Technology on Oct. 7.

The win over SOU is especially significant for Northwest University (9-2 Cascade, 13-4), as it gives the Eagles a sweep of Southern Oregon for the first time in recent memory. Before this season, Northwest University hadn’t beaten SOU since 2004.

The Eagles have won six of the last seven, and sit just ahead of Corban University for second place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings with eight matches remaining in the regular season.

No. 24 Northwest University fell four spots in the latest NAIA coaches poll, released on Oct. 4, but remained in the top-25 for the second consecutive release.

Next, Northwest is scheduled to play the College of Idaho on Sept. 14 in Caldwell, Idaho.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Eagles split a two-game road trip in Southern Oregon on Oct. 7-8, beating Oregon Tech 2-1 in double overtime and falling to Southern Oregon University, 1-0.

Northwest University (5-2, 9-3) trailed Oregon Tech in the 15th minute, but tied the game two minutes later when Chris Iacolucci converted a penalty.

Kyle Zimmerman scored in the 105th minute on an assist from Jordan Travis to win the match.

The split result moved Northwest into a tie with Corban University for fourth in the conference standings.

Next, the Eagles have a two-match home stand against University of Great Falls on Oct. 14 and Carroll College on Oct. 15. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the NU athletic field on campus.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Jubilee Zevenbergen scored a hat trick on Oct. 7 in Klamath Falls, Ore., helping the NU women to a 3-1 conference victory over Oregon Tech.

The first score came in the seventh minute, followed by goals in the 49th and 52nd minutes. Zevenbergen moved into a tie for the team lead in goals with five.

The next day, the Eagles lost to Southern Oregon, 0-1, in Ashland, Ore.

Northwest (3-2, 7-4) sits two points clear of Warner Pacific for fifth place in the conference standings. Next, the Eagles host University of Great Falls and Carroll College on Oct. 14 and 15, respectively. Matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
