Northwest University team earns shutout again Evergreen | College men’s soccer

Northwest University (NU) scored early in the first half and held on for a 1-0 shutout of Evergreen in Cascade Conference play Friday.

Northwest University (NU) scored early in the first half and held on for a 1-0 shutout of Evergreen in Cascade Conference play Friday. NU goalkeeper Daniel Christenson of Bothell made a key save on a penalty kick in the first half which helped preserve the victory for the Eagles. The Eagles are tied with Concordia for second place in the CCC with 18 points, one point out of first.

Evergreen was fouled in the box seven minutes into the game setting up a penalty kick for the Geoduck’s Willie Spurr. His shot was saved by Christenson preventing the Evergreen score and the game remained tied at 0-0.

NU’s Taylor Young scored what proved to be the game winner in the 25th minute with his header from the 6 yard mark. Trever Moll and Odason Pelogi were credited with the double assist on the play.

The Northwest U (10-2, 6-2 CCC) defense turned away Evergreen (4-6-1, 4-3-1 CCC) scoring opportunities in the second half with Christenson making two saves in the half to help keep the Geoducks scoreless. Evergreen outshot NU 13-5.
