Northwest University’s Kelsey Greene scored in the 84th minute to give the Eagle women’s soccer team an opening day, 1-0, shut out over University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) on the NU Athletic Field in Kirkland on Saturday.

Playing with just 14 players suited up for the game, Northwest University (1-0-0) came through with the score as Greene’s corner kick from the left side went off the hands of UBCO keeper Francesca Balletta for the game winner.

UBCO (0-2-0) controlled most of the first half with seven shots to the Eagles’ two, but Northwest turned the tables on the Heat in the second with a 7-3 shot margin, including Greene’s game winner as it looked as though the game was headed for overtime.

Northwest’s Patty Hughes recorded the shutout in goal making two saves on the day. Acacia Johnson led Northwest with three shots and Paige Howes led UBCO with three shots.

Northwest will travel to Santa Barbara to face Biola and Westmont College in non-conference match-ups on Aug. 21 and 23.
