The Juanita High girls basketball team will need a win in the season finale to ensure a chance — just a chance — at avoiding the play-in round of the upcoming conference tournament.
The Rebels lost to Bellevue, 62-56, on Friday in Bellevue, dropping Juanita into a tie with Redmond for the third seed in the conference.
Juanita (8-5 KingCo, 12-7) and Redmond (8-5, 11-8) split the two regular season games, and should both schools finish the season with an identical record, the playoff seeding comes down to chance.
Had the Rebels beaten Bellevue, Juanita could have finished as high as second in the conference standings.
Juanita led by a pair after the first quarter and trailed by one at halftime, but Bellevue outscored the Rebels 13-7 in the third quarter and 24-19 in the fourth period.
Freshman Brandi White led Juanita with 17 points. Senior Tea Adams struggled from the field, hitting six of 25 attempts for 18 points.
Bellevue senior Ann-Marie Jacobs led all scorers with 23 points.
Juanita is set to play Liberty at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the regular-season finale at Juanita High School. Redmond is scheduled to play Interlake.
Redmond 65, Lake Washington 39.
The Mustangs held all 10 active Lake Washington players to single digits in scoring for a conference win on Jan. 27 in Redmond.
Lake Washington (1-12, 2-17) isn’t mathematically eliminated from postseason contention, but the Kangs would need big pieces to fall into place.
First, Lake Washington would need a win over Mercer Island (13-0, 15-3) in the regular season finale, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 on Mercer Island
Secondly, Interlake (2-11, 5-13) would need to lose to Redmond on Jan. 31.
Finally, Lake Washington would need to win the by-chance tiebreaker with Interlake just to make the Feb. 3 play-in game.
Senior Kathy Helf led the Kangs with eight points against Redmond.
