Fulfilling Juanita head coach Sam Lee’s season long wish last Friday night, his girls team beat Mercer Island 76-61.
Earlier in the year, Lee had said he hoped to beat the Islanders this season, after many close games with the KingCo opponent. The goal came true in the Islanders’ home gym as Bre Carter and Mikayla Jones contributed 41 points to the team’s win.
Juanita kept the Mercer Island offense from getting hot early in the game with strong defensive, coupled by seemingly unstoppable offensive plays on the opposite end. The Rebels held a 37-29 lead going into the half.
After the break, Mercer Island tried to surge from behind, but Juanita consistently held the lead by a 10 point average. The lead remained throughout the fourth quarter to give the Rebels the win.
Carter put up 21 points for the Rebels, while her teammate Mikayla Jones had 20 points, but Mercer Island’s Kris Brackmann had the game high of 25 points. Juanita is 6-0 in the league.
Earlier in the week the Rebels extended their league winning streak to five, beating Sammamish on Wednesday evening. The Lady Rebels won 73-26 over the Totems.
The Rebels scored at least 13 points ever quarter of the game, while holding Sammamish to just 14 points in three quarters.
Every member of the Rebels team scored during the win. Captain Kate Cryderman posted the team high of 16, followed by Mikayla Jone’s 14 points, Molly Grager had 10, Bre Carter, Jessica Latousek and Destry Seiler each had six points, while Tayler Lloyd and Taylor Paddock each had four points. Kyla Terashima, Molly Steck and Taylor Reikstins each added two for the team.
