The speed of the Juanita High School boys’ track team was on full display as the Rebels, Lake Washington High and Interlake High met up on Thursday in Sammamish.
Juanita’s Makiah Gilmer and Salvon Ahmed finished first and second in the 100 meters, while Juanita freshman Ryan Greenwalt won the 200 meters and long jump.
Juanita took first and second – seniors Randy Jones and Noah Kells, respectively – in the 400 meters as well, while Kells also took second in the 800 meters.
Senior Tom Mikkelson took second in the mile and won the two-mile race for the Rebels. Senior Nathan Casebier won both the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles, and won the triple jump competition.
Juanita’s Trevor Williams took second in the shot put and discus competitions.
Juanita garnered a win in the boys’ pole vault as well as senior Emerson Berosik set the winning mark of 11 feet.
Lake Washington had a number of notables on the boys’ side as well, namely a first-place finish from the 4×100 meter relay team of Ryan Clifford, DJ Mann, Chet Atuanya and Scout Callens.
Mann and Callins combined with Jet Yinn and Brett Walker to win the 4×400 meter relay, as well.
Lake Washington’s Dylan Bacher won the shot put, Alex Garcia won the discus and Brandon Gockel won the javelin.
Sean Miller won the high jump for Lake Washington.
The Kangaroos had several standouts on the girls’ side. Senior Margret Helgeson won the triple jump and junior Natalie Vetto won the javelin competition.
Sophomore Claire Cocales won the mile for the Kangs, while freshman Thayer Davis won the 200 meters and finished second in the 100. Fellow freshman Taryn Chisolm finished second in the 400 meters.
Natalie Kalda and Shelby Wilks were standouts for Juanita. Kalda won the 100 meter hurdles, while Wilks won the 300 meter event.
Wilks, Kalda, Colleen O’Neal and Kelsey McLean won the 4×100 meter relay. McLean, O’Neal, Jayla Kidd and Milena Kolesnikova won the 4×200 meter relay.
LW junior Nataya Bauer won the shot put and discus competitions, and finished second in the javelin.
Juanita’s Katrina Teo won the pole vault and Carly Taylor won the long jump.
No team scores were published for Thursday’s meet.
Next, Juanita High is scheduled to compete at Sammamish High School on Thursday, April 14. Lake Washington is scheduled to compete at Bellevue High on Thursday, April 14.
