The Juanita High School girls swim team defeated Ballard by just one point, 93-92, Oct. 9.
Despite facing a 4A squad with more athletes, the Rebels were led to the victory by seven first-place finishes.
During the 200-yard freestyle Juanita’s Hanna Armstrong touched the wall first in a time of 2:01.19. The win would sparked the Rebels to first place in six of the next seven events. Juanita’s Rachael Kurtz won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:13.85 and teammate Kelly Tannhauser would take the 50-yard freestyle (25.82). Rebel Celia Pinczower took first in diving with a score of 232.75.
Kurtz picked up her second win of the meet in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.22 and Tannhauser equaled her teamamte’s mark with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.03).
Juanita swimmers finished off the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Armstrong, Madison Silva, Laura Stevens and Amanda Wilson won in a time of 1:49.03.
