The Juanita High School volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory against Sammamish Tuesday only to lose on Thursday to Interlake 3-2 and fall back below .500.
The Rebels blew through the Totems during the first game 25-14 and then nearly replicated the score with a 25-26 victory during the second game. Sammamish had little fight left during the third game, as Juanita finished the Totems off 25-9. The Rebels were led by Alona Chenish, who had 15 assists and 11 aces. Ashley Manzoni led the team on defense with 12 digs.
Juanita fell behind two games to nothing against the Saints, 25-29, 25-23. But the Rebels refused to go home early, battling back to tie the match up at two games each with a 25-23 during the third game and a 25-21 victory during the fourth game. The teams battled point-for-point during the fifth-game tiebreaker, with the Saints finally ending the match with a 16-14 win. Chenish had 43 assists during the match, as Vicky Neam (16) and Dana Michels (15) led the squad in kills. Rebel Ashley Manzoni came up big with 25 digs on defense. The loss dropped Juanita into fourth place, a half game behind Interlake in 3A KingCo.
The Rebels will face stiff opposition Thursday as they host Mount Si for a 7 p.m. match at Juanita High School.
