After starting out 2-0, Kirkland’s all-star squad lost two games on Tuesday at the Junior League Softball World Series at Everest Park.
Southeast (Mechanicsville, Va.), beat the locals, 16-2, in six innings, and Central (Poland, Ohio) defeated Kirkland, 4-3, in eight innings.
Against Southeast, Anna Fridell homered for Kirkland, Kaia Bradford doubled and scored and Ruby Olmstead had a hit. Abbie Reynolds had an RBI.
In the Central game, Bradford had two hits, including a triple; Reynolds had two hits and an RBI; Fridell had one hit and one RBI; and Maddy Miller had one hit and one RBI.
The two teams were tied 2-2 after one inning, Central took a 3-2 lead in the third and Kirkland tied it up in the fourth. Central scored the winning run in the top of the eighth.
Kirkland finished 2-2 in Pool A and was set to advance to the next round, according to the series website. Single-elimination championship play begins on Thursday, the semifinals are Friday and the championship game is Saturday.
