FC Alliance B02A, a youth soccer team with players from Kirkland, received the State Cup Championship title on May 1 with a 5-4 shootout victory against Seattle United B02A. This title is the highest level of competition in the state for youth soccer.
“This was a moment that we trained and prepared for several years together,” said coach Hugo Alcaraz. “Along with the commitment and passion the players benefited from training and coaching of several coaches such as Santa Maria Rivera, Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar, Jeremy Supinski and Rikky Falagan.”
During the state finals, FC Alliance and Seattle United teams played tough defense with FCA defenders Trent Grotle, Jaden Cantu, Ben Freeman and Josh Vora not allowing any goals. After two 10-minute overtimes the teams went to penalty kicks. The first three on each team made went into the goal. Then FCA missed one. Then FCA goalie Ashton Fossati stopped a Seattle United ball from entering the goal. The teams traded goals for a 4-4 tie. Seattle United missed the net on its final kick and FCA scored, securing the championship. This is the first time FC Alliance B02A has won the State Cup Title.
With the State Cup Title comes the opportunity for us to travel to Boise, Idaho for the Regional Championships June 20-26. The team will be competing against the state champions from the 13 most western states for a berth at the National Championships in Texas.
