Three tennis teams from the Central Park Tennis Club in Kirkland will be attending the 2010 USTA League Pacific Northwest Senior Section championships in Sunriver, Ore.
The event, held June 24-27 will include the senior men’s 4.0 team, captained by David Progue, the senior women’s 3.0 team, captained by Joyce Ismon, and the senior men’s 3.5 team, captained by Alan Pickrell.
Over 60 teams and 300 players will take part in the tournament, featuring the best senior teams from Alaska, Oregon and Washington. All players are 50 years and older grouped by four ability levels. The tournament will consist of the best of three doubles matches and outcomes will be decided on team scoring.
Kirkland native, University of Montana baseball player, earns Big Sky conference honors
Ryan Staudacher, from Kirkland, and member of the Grizzles basketball team, was named as one of the 2010 Big Sky Conference Scholar-Athletes. To be eligible, athletes must have competed their athletic eligibility in 2009-2010 and stood out in both athletic and academic pursuits.
Staudacher finished his fourth and final year with the team this spring, finished third on the team in scoring in his last season, averaging 8.6 points a game. Staudacher had a career three point shot average of 44.4 percent and led the conference as both a junior and a senior. His 210 career three’s is the third highest on the Montana career list.
He was also a three-time Academic All-Big Sky Conference selection and earned a degree in finance with a grade point average of 3.57. He will graduate this summer from the school’s Master’s in Business Administration program.
Kirkland rower barely missed podium finish at USRA Youth National Rowing competition
Max Knapp, a Kirkland resident and member of the Lakeside School rowing team, recently traveled to the U.S. Youth National Rowing competition in Ohio. Rowing on the varsity 4 boat the team from Lakeside made the Grand Final, finishing in fourth place, just .06 seconds out of a podium finish. Lakeside had three boats finish in the top four at nationals, another boat in the top eight and another in the top 15 in the country.
Lakeside’s boathouse is in South Kenmore and the team practices on Lake Washington throughout the season.
