Three Northwest University (NU) men’s basketball players were named to the 2017 Cascade Collegiate All-Conference basketball team as announced by the league office on Feb. 28. Senior Michael Dupree was named to the All-CCC first team by a vote of the conference coaches while seniors Dak Shagren and Ben Tucakovic earned honorable mention honors.
“It’s rewarding to see these three seniors rewarded for their efforts and contributions to our team this past season,” NU head coach John Van Dyke said. “Michael and Ben have been outstanding teammates for us for two years while Dak was a great contributor for four years. “I am proud to have been able to coach these outstanding young men who are positive role models both on and off the court.”
Dupree, a 6-foot-1 guard from Tacoma, Wash., was the Eagles leading scorer this past season with a 17.4 scoring average and also led the team in assists with 104 in the 29 games he played in this season. He shot 48 percent for the season and 44 percent from the 3-point line. Dupree totaled 957 career points in two years with NU while handing out 206 assists.
Shagren, the Eagles 6-foot-3 guard from Custer, Wash., was the team’s third leading scorer finishing the season with a 13.9 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field. He led the team with an 80.7 percent average from the free throw line. Shagren completes his career at NU with 1,436 points, 358 rebounds and converting 230 3-pointers.
Tucakovic, a 6-foot-7 forward from Boise, Idaho, was the second leading scorer for NU averaging 14.6 points per game in 28 contests this season. He also led the team in rebounding, pulling down 206 rebounds for a 7.36 average. Tucakovic scored 837 career points and grabbed 411 rebounds in two years. He also ranked No. 17 in NAIA Division II in defensive rebounds per game (6.643 rpg).
