These are the two most important positions in golf. They are easy to get into with a little practice and some decent instruction.
Half way back and half way through are mirror images of each other. Getting in these positions means the club is square and you don’t have to flip your hands at full speed to hit straight shots.
Notice half way back that from this angle you can’t see the shaft, which means the club is on perfect plane and in front of me. Also, the toe of the club is straight up in the air, which is square. If the toe was pointing away from me it would be shut and if it was pointing behind me it would be open, both poor are positions.
The half-way through position is harder to maintain. I have taught some of the best players in the world including, Jim Colbert, Rocco Mediate and Scott Piercy. Every time these guys would use in this position it would be not quite right from working on something wrong, or just not concentrating on the fundamentals.
Notice half way through, the toe of the club is pointing up, my chest and hips are already facing the target, and the shaft can’t be seen from this angle. In other words, it’s on my toe line and my left arm is hinged at the elbow to stay out of the way.
Record yourself on video and work on getting into these two fundamental positions for the best golf of your life.
