The 14 and under Rep Tier 2 Washington Wild team of the Western Washington Female Hockey Association (WWFHA) won the gold medal in the championship game of the Surrey SuperHearts Tournament on Sunday.

The team is made up female players from Western Washington, including Kirkland residents Abby O’Neill and Kayla Kutes, who netted the game-winning goal.

The team played in the Surrey SuperHearts Tournament over the weekend against several teams from British Columbia. The Wild earned a 3-1 record in round-robin play of the tournament, losing to Surrey 2-1 in the first game, and then defeating Kelowna 4-2, North Shore 12-1 and Alaska 4-3.

The Wild met the host team, the Surrey Falcons, in the championship game on Sunday, which ended in a 3-3 tie after regulation time. A five minute over-time was played, however, neither team scored. The Wild ended the game in a shootout in the fifth round on a goal by forward Kutes, and the stingy goaltending by Olivia Colgan.
