In a fitting finish for the holiday, Desiree Berry had the top time in the Mother’s Day Half-marathon on Sunday in Kirkland.
The half-marathon began at Northwest University, stretching up to follow the Cross Kirkland Corridor (CKC) to the north, snaking south along Lake Washington Boulevard and rejoining the CKC before taking Forbes Creek Drive down to Market Street and finishing at Juanita Beach Park.
Berry finished 24 seconds ahead of the second place runner, David Elrod, with a time of 1-hour, 23-minutes.
Andrew Richards finished third overall and Nathan Kurz was fourth overall. Sophia Liu finished fifth overall and second among female participants.
Of the 560 finishers, 402 finishers were female, with an average time of 2-hours, 16-minutes.
The 5,000 meters race was won by Brett Winegar in 18-minutes, 15-seconds. Kyle Richards finished second and Jeremy Tagliaferre finished third overall. Carl Laviolette finished fourth, and Amber McCulloch finished fifth and first overall for female runners.
A total of 421 runners finished the 5,000 meters, 311 of which were female.
